The downside of hardwood refinishing is it takes off about 0.5 – 1.5 mm of the top layer each time. This can only be done a limited number of times, as specified by the hardwood guidelines.

Sandless Hardwood Refinishing is great for wood floors in good condition that need a refresh. This method involves lightly scuffing the floor with a sanding machine (floor buffing) and using an etching chemical on the surface. Then, small damages are fixed before adding a new finish coat. This process is also called hardwood buffing or polishing.
This technique is moderately intensive. It is quicker and cheaper than traditional sanding methods. Although it removes less of the top layer, it’s not completely dust-free, and you might notice a bit of dust in your home. Sandless refinishing won’t get rid of deep scratches and dents and doesn’t allow for staining the floor.
